Assen, Netherlands — Yamaha Motor is celebrating its 70th anniversary in spectacular fashion this weekend at the Grand Prix of the Netherlands, unveiling a striking one-off commemorative livery that pays tribute to its legendary racing heritage.

Both the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team and the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team will compete at TT Circuit Assen on Sunday adorned in the iconic red and white colours of the 1999 Yamaha YZF-R7 — a legendary machine that once dominated the track and captured the hearts of racing fans worldwide

The anniversary celebration officially kicked off June 27 at 18:30 local time (GMT+2), when both Yamaha teams took to the grid for a special livery reveal. Media and fans were treated to the first look at the custom race bikes, rider suits, and team uniforms — all unified in a bold, retro design that honours the past while racing into the future.

Riders Fabio Quartararo, Álex Rins, Jack Miller, and Miguel Oliveira will channel the spirit of Noriyuki Haga, who raced the World Superbike Championship on the YZF-R7 OW02 in 1999. Their racing gear is directly inspired by Haga’s iconic look from that era, making this a deeply nostalgic and symbolic moment for Yamaha fans and MotoGP enthusiasts alike.

The presentation marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time both Yamaha MotoGP teams appeared together on the grid in matching liveries. This powerful display not only highlights Yamaha’s historical legacy, but also embodies its unified strategic vision for the future.

Throughout its storied motorsports history, Yamaha has earned:

39 Rider Titles

37 Constructor Titles

7 Team Titles

…in the World Road Racing Championship alone — a legacy unmatched in both depth and determination.

On Sunday 29 June, tribute is not just about honouring a machine. It’s about celebrating Yamaha’s relentless drive, its loyal global fanbase, and the countless milestones that have defined its place in motorsports.

As the lights go out on Sunday, all eyes are on Assen — not just to watch the race, but to witness a historic moment that connects Yamaha’s past, present, and future.
